Acknowledgement of Country

Grumpy Girl / Grumpy Times

Grumpy Girl is the latest addition to the spotcat shop. My favourite part of her design are her long and curved legs. They look great when crossed. I chose the colours to reflect the grumpy / moody theme and the mottled purple skin fabric looks great.

Since opening my shop on etsy I've been getting a lot of advice from well meaning people. My mum thinks I should make some more "normal" items. She might be right but I'm afraid my eccentricity is rather ingrained. I've also been told I should make some cheap items and use a sewing machine instead of hand stitching. My instinct says to not go more mainstream or give up my hand stitched ethos. It's difficult to know what advice to take and what advice to ignore. I think it's a matter of doing what feels right - if the advice resonates with you, it's probably worth thinking about.

Reverse Garbage

A trip to Reverse Garbage in Marrickville meant a bag full of fabric remnants. Today I aired and washed the fabric and I'll soon be making lots of little critters, so keep an eye out.
This week I've been making some art dolls with crocheted clothes and strange hats / hoods which cover the dolls' faces. They are turning into a series.

I made my first etsy purchase as well and I'll share that with you when it arrives.

If you'd like to find out more about Reverse Garbage, a nonprofit recycling centre with lots of good stuff for making craft, their website is www.reversegarbage.org.au.
